I am a Jamaica-born British writer, unashamedly a country gyal from rural Jamaica, born on a sugar plantation and rooted in the reality of ordinary lives. My creativity and purpose are fuelled by a Jamaican spiritedness, drawing on the powerful assets of Caribbean culture.
I write political fiction rooted in lived experience, centring the voices of marginalised people, stories that challenge stigma, unsettle the comfortable, and disrupt the narratives of power. Every piece of fiction I create draws on my own life, using personal truths to illuminate those often ignored or denied. Through my community projects, I extend this mission beyond the page, creating spaces where voices on the extreme margins can rise. Writing and community intersect in my practice as tools for resistance, healing, and change. |
Through my community programmes, I create projects that make a difference, working alongside communities to help them access valuable resources and raise their own voices.
I’m passionate about supporting writers on the extreme margins; those whose voices are rarely heard, who face significant barriers, and who are driven to develop their craft in political fiction. If you are a writer who wants to challenge the status quo, address uncomfortable realities, and use fiction as a tool for social change, you’ll find resources, encouragement, and connection here. Whether you’re a reader, writer, or organisation, you’re invited to engage with storytelling as a force for transformation. |
